ANVISA Free Tool for Novel Foods
ANVISA has developed a tool to determine whether a specific ingredient is classified as a Novel Food or New Ingredient.
This tool, which is available free of charge, aims to help companies understand whether their ingredients are considered a Novel Food or not. Based on the assessment provided, companies can then decide whether to conduct a bibliographical survey, develop a technical-scientific report, or submit a new request for evaluation.
The results of these assessments will be published on ANVISA’s website.
Creatine: New Upper Limit Under Review
ANVISA is open to discussions on the review of the limits of Creatine in Food Supplements for adults.
Currently, the maximum dosage permitted for Creatine is 3000 mg/day.
The proposal under consideration suggests to increase this limit to a range of 3000-5000 mg/day of Creatine for the adult population.
The proposal is still being discussed at ANVISA and may undergo a public consultation before being published. No timelines have been provided for now.
This is a developing narrative; we will update it as new information emerges.
