Below are the updates related to the new entries for the Novel Food Status Catalogue. These updates refer to the month of March 2026 and have impact on Food Supplements.

• Rooster comb extract: Not Novel in Food Supplements. Any other food uses may be considered as novel.
• Rooster comb extract: Authorised novel food. Can only be placed on the EU market under specific conditions of use and specifications.

• Substance/extract/preparation (produced by fermentation with Escherichia coli): Unauthorised Novel Food. A pre-market authorisation is required before it can be put on the EU market.
• Update: Addition of precisions. Addition of the novel food status outcome of L-theanine (obtained by microbial fermentation using Escherichia coli).
Cannabis sativa L. (Hemp)
• Seeds: Not Novel in Food.
• Water infusion of hemp leaves (when not accompanied by the flowering and fruiting tops) consumed as such or as part of herbal infusions: Not Novel in Food.
• Soluble edestin from Cannabis sativa L.: Unauthorised Novel Food. A pre-market authorisation is required before it can be put on the EU market.
• Update: Addition of precisions. Addition of the novel food status outcome of soluble edestin from Cannabis sativa L.
Cistus x incanus L.
• Whole: Not Novel in Food Supplements. Any other food uses may be considered as novel.
• Infusion from aerial parts: Unauthorised Novel Food. A pre-market authorisation is required before it can be put on the EU market.
• Update: Addition of precisions. Addition of the novel food status outcome of herbal infusion from the aerial parts of Cistus x incanus L.
