Below are the updates related to the new entries for the Novel Food Status Catalogue. These updates refer to the month of November 2025 and have impact on Food Supplements.
Epimedium sagittatum (Siebold & Zucc.) Maxim
• Whole: Unauthorised Novel Food. A pre-market authorisation is required before it can be put on the EU market.
• Update: Addition of precisions.

• Whole: Unauthorised Novel Food. A pre-market authorisation is required before it can be put on the EU market.

• Seed (also known as Tonka bean): Not Novel in Food.
• Update: New entry
Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA, N-(2-Hydroxyethyl)hexadecanamide)
• Whole: Not Novel in Food Supplements. Any other food uses may be considered as novel.
• Update: New entry.
Oleoylethanolamide (OEA, (Z)-N-(2-hydroxy-ethyl)octadec-9-enamide)
• Whole: Unauthorised Novel Food. A pre-market authorisation is required before it can be put on the EU market.
• Update: New entry.
Cistanche tubulosa (Schenk) Wight
• All plant parts and their extracts: Unauthorised Novel Food. A pre-market authorisation is required before it can be put on the EU market.
• Update: New entry.
Fusarium venenatum
• Mycoprotein of Fusarium venenatum strain NRRL 26228: Unauthorised Novel Food. A pre-market authorisation is required before it can be put on the EU market.
• Update: New entry.
Neem: Azadirachta indica
• Fruit: Not Novel in Food Supplements. Any other food uses may be considered as novel.
• Leaves: Unauthorised Novel Food. A pre-market authorisation is required before it can be put on the EU market.
• Oil from fruits: Unauthorised Novel Food. A pre-market authorisation is required before it can be put on the EU market.
• Update: New entry.
Common poppy: Papaver rhoeas L.
• Seeds and leaves: Not Novel in Food Supplements. Any other food uses may be considered as novel.
• Flowers: Not Novel in Food.
• Update: Addition of precisions. Status update of the flowers to ‘not novel in food’.
