Updated List of Permitted Vitamins and Minerals in Food
Last week, on November 17, the Thailand Food and Drug Administration (Thai FDA) released new guidance titled “Guidance on the Use of Forms of Vitamins and Minerals as Key Ingredients in Food Products.”
This guidance updates the positive lists of vitamins and minerals permitted for use in two categories:
• Food Supplements (Annex 1)
• Other Foods, including Fortified Foods (Annex 2)
The vitamins and minerals listed in Annex 1 for Food Supplements do not require a safety review and assessment prior to product registration with the Thai FDA. The same exemption applies to Other Foods when using the vitamins and minerals outlined in Annex 2.
When applying for product registration for the food categories listed below, their specific criteria and conditions must be taken into account:
• Supplementary food for infants and young children.
• Medical food for infants and young children.
• Modified milk for infants and follow-up formula for infants and young children.
• Infant food and follow-up formula for infants and young children.
