Reaffirmation on NMN and NAD ban on Health Supplements
The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) of Australia has reissued a clear warning that nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) and related compounds, such as NAD, are not permitted ingredients in the category of *Listed Medicines (‘AUST L’), including Health Supplements.
Listed Medicines that claim to contain NAD or NMN in their name, labelling, or advertising may violate the law, especially if these claims imply or suggest the presence of these compounds.
Consumers are allowed to import NMN and NAD products from overseas for personal use under the ‘Personal Importation Scheme’, but strict limits apply. Resale of these products remains illegal.
Still, NMN products that are approved as “export only” can be manufactured in Australia but must be exported outside the country for sale.
*Listed Medicines* (‘AUST L’): medicines that are exempt from registration but can only contain pre-approved low-risk ingredients and make low-level health claims.
