Recently, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) added two new substances to the list of chemicals that could potentially be harmful to people or environment:
– Decamethyltetrasiloxane
– 1,1,1,3,5,5,5-heptamethyl-3-[(trimethylsilyl)oxy]trisiloxane
These two chemicals are considered to be “Very persistent and very bioaccumulative” and can be used in cosmetics and personal care products across several categories.
From 25th June 2025, producers and importers of the above ingredients and products containing these ingredients have a legal obligation to notify ECHA within six months, meaning by the end of December 2025.
Producers and importers must also update the safety data sheets they provide to their customers.
The Candidate List of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) from ECHA now contains 250 entries for chemicals that can harm people or the environment.
