Indonesia establish 2026 Deadline for Halal Cosmetic Certification

New regulations are shaping the future of the cosmetics market as a result of a global demand for Halal cosmetics, driven by a growing Muslim population and increased awareness of ethical product standards.

Indonesia has taken a major step by becoming the first country to mandate Halal certification for cosmetic products sold as “Halal.” Under Regulation 31/2019, all cosmetic manufacturers and suppliers must comply with specific Halal requirements.

Key Requirements:
– Use of Halal-compliant raw materials only.
– Adherence to strict ethical, hygiene, and cleanliness standards during production, packaging, labelling, distribution, and logistics.
– Alignment with regulatory and quality frameworks (Halal regulations may overlap with current practices, easing the transition).

Brands have until October 17, 2026, to obtain certification. After this date, products not certified will be considered non-Halal and the packaging must clearly state: “Not Halal” if the product is not certified.

Halal-certified cosmetics are gaining traction not only for compliance but also for their higher safety and quality standards compared to conventional products. This reputation is making Halal certification a key selling point worldwide.
